SAFF Championship Final: India wins in penalty shootout, clinch title for 9th time
The Indian team won an exciting final match of the SAIF Championship. Sunil Chhetri’s team defeated Kuwait 4-5 in the penalty shoot-out and won the Safe Football Championship title for the ninth time. During the match, the two teams were tied 1-1 at full time, after which extra time was given to get the result. Here too the decision of the match could not be decided and then the players of both teams could not score. After which a penalty shootout was resorted to. Here the Indian team was able to defeat Kuwait and take the title.
The first goal of the final match was scored by the Kuwaiti player, Qatari. He accomplished this feat for his team in the 16th minute. India had a chance to score soon after in the 17th minute, but the breakthrough was not forthcoming. The Indian team was trailing 0-1 till the 38th minute, but Sunil Chhetri scored a goal in the 39th minute to level the score at 1-1.
