Indian Cricket Board BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after which social media has been flooded with memes and criticism and the proposed champions to be held in Pakistan next year. 35-year-old Jay Shah will be the youngest chairman of the ICC and has been elected unopposed. His tenure as chairman will start on December 1, 2024.
New Zealand’s Greg Barclay, the current ICC chairman, expires on November 30. He held the position for two consecutive terms but declined to run for a third term.
Jay Shah said in a statement that he is committed to spreading cricket around the world with the ICC team and member nations.
Jay Shah is the fifth Indian to reach the ICC’s top position. Earlier, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar have also held the post.
